I grew up on a show called “It’s Cartoon Time.” On the show, a cartoonist in a goofy outfit would teach kids how to draw cartoons. He would always close each segment with the phrase “practice, practice, practice.” The idea was, if you practiced drawing cartoons every single day, you would get really good at it… and probably start wearing goofy outfits, too! =P
I’ve grown up (somewhat) since then, but I haven’t outgrown that rule… and neither should any of us! If you want to get good at something, you must practice every single day, not just to achieve proficiency in it, but also to maintain that proficiency. An athlete that doesn’t practice feels the burn his muscles. A musician that doesn’t practice feels the pain in his fingers. A writer who doesn’t practice feels the burn in his heart. So, practice. Good things happen by accident, great things happen by intent.
