The turnout for the Asheville Studio Filmmaking Mixer was superb. The place was packed, barely room to move. Finding my friends from the Actor’s Center, we traveled like a school of fish through the crowd, rubbing elbows with colleagues and acquaintences. Each familiar face spotted brought an increased feeling of belonging. There were talks of projects, past, present, and future. Beer was made available in the fridge. A local distillery served samples of rum and gin. Outside, a massive rainbow arched through the sky amidst the light rain.
A few hours later, the sky darkened and the event-goers made their way to the brewery next door. There were more drinks, talks of costume ideas and future outings. As we made our way outside after the brewery closed, we talked of nature hikes and acting class.
It’s all part of an ongoing discussion, an endless dialogue between creatives. Moments build upon moments, creating momentum. It’s a wonderful feeling: moving forward with friends.
