Menudo and Jesus

We Mexicans love

our bonus material

the brain, the tongue,

the intestine, the fat

it’s all incredibly delicious

and respects the whole animal

not just the pretty parts

Nothing goes to waste

So too does nothing go

to waste with God

our bodies our experiences

the way we speak and think

nothing is overlooked

Our habit is to disregard that part of us

or ignore this experience

so that we can come up with a commercially viable

and easily identifiable product

the fact of the matter is it is all

part of a design, mind-blowing and seemingly unrelated

as it may appear.

We must continue to look to God

for answers,

lest we settling for picking through life

looking for all the pretty bits.

Existential Jesus

Kierkegaard was right

Suffering is not the end,

but the redefinition

the renewal

of all things.

our suffering,

though may be the end of our

romantic notions

our theories and projects,

does not catapult us into chaos

nor consume us,

but rather catapult us into completion.

upon the cross, Christ proclaimed

“it is finished”

but that was not even the end of His EARTHLY

ministry

He returned after His death to continue

doling out the Great Commission

upon which His church was spread.

and so in death we also continue

our suffering

is only just the beginning

of an abundant life.

o Mighty, Majestic Creator God

We’re all so beautiful

Made from clay and bone

Filled with the warmth of blood

pumping wildly ‘neath

the softest of skin

Our mouths breathe forth the breath

first put into by God,

the laws say nothing is lost

The power and majesty of the First Day

still surrounds us

every day.

LORD, open my eyes so I can see it

see you

see everything

angels, demons, hope life love danger

community need

let me fall to my knees and thank you

for I am in of everything

You touch

o Mighty Majestic Creator

of heaven and earth.

Sheep and Goats

Judas and Peter betrayed God,

yet Peter kept going.

Not only that, but he was given the keys to heaven.

See the measure of our faith is not

whether or not we fail.

I mean, we all fail

It’s whether or not we’re willing to get over ourselves

and look to God

in spite of it that separates the sheep from the goats.
