Compost

So here’s the thing:

compost is essential to good gardening.

It’s like natural Miracle Grow

What’s in compost?

Trash, basically.

Food scraps, leaves. Things you tend to discard.

But you put it all together and give it some time,

it does some really cool stuff.

I think this is an important life lesson:

the soil doesn’t start good.

First we’ve got to get all our garbage out there.

It does it no good just sitting about in a corner of our kitchen,

but put it in the ground and give it time,

and good things happen.

So air out your garbage and see what good fruit comes from it.

Without Reservations

So, there I was in the yellow room,

with all my fellow actors and actresses

and we are getting changed.

Men, women all in the same room

switching out of clothes and into new ones

No filter no reservations

just the gig.

I reminded me again how distorted

our concept of the human body is,

outside the safety of that changing room.

Where there is openness and upholding

of mutual respect and freedom,

when everyone is on the same page,

then we can coexist freely together.

When we hold back,

become a spectator,

shame our bodies and those of others,

then odd things start to happen.

The heart sours,

becomes cold and twisted.

Rather than opening like a tea blossom

steeped a nice hot cup of water,

it shrivels like an apple

deprived of moisture.

I ponder on these things I venture onstage,

and wish for a day when we are able to offer ourselves

without reservation, emotionally physically mentally and spiritually

to one another again.

Sheep and Goats

Judas and Peter betrayed God,

yet Peter kept going.

Not only that, but he was given the keys to heaven.

See the measure of our faith is not

whether or not we fail.

I mean, we all fail

It’s whether or not we’re willing to get over ourselves

and look to God

in spite of it that separates the sheep from the goats.

Even When The Rain Falls

If you’re ever caught in the rain, it’s only natural to seek shelter,

but what if you stopped and stood and turned your head to heaven,

mouth open

and began to catch the rain in your mouth, taking in every last drop

This torrent is a gift from God after all, and sure it’s a lot to take in,

but why shy away from it? Just as plants are watered by the rain,

so too can we be.

Whether that rainfall is actual or metaphorical,

we have the power to take ownership of it, to use it for our betterment,

rather than our detriment, to enjoy life to its fullest and realest,

even when the rain falls
