Progressive Theology

People rag on Paul

because he did not speak loudly enough

about freeing the slaves

or giving voice to women

It is important to note that

for that time

the steps that he did take were huge,

calling for the inclusion of Gentiles,

for a master to acknowledge his escaped slave

as a brother,

and boldly stating that there is

neither Jew nor Gentile,

nor slave nor free,

nor man nor woman

in Christ;

but we would be foolish to stop there,

just in the same way that our Founding Fathers

espoused liberty while withholding rights

from many.

No, it would millennia before

the Paul saw the freeing of slaves,

the protections of the immigrant,

and the giving of authority to women.

Just as Jesus did not come to abolish the law

but rather fulfill it

we strive not to debunk Paul’s asserts

but rather to see them come to true fruition

it is progressive theology.

Just as God is not quick to act,

but rather takes His time in seeing His will be done,

so too does society take its time to get where it needs to go.

We must continue to be both active and patient in that regard,

knowing that growth, whether personal or society,

takes time,

but eventually that Kairos time does come.

Your First Love

I have a nasty habit of getting really busy. I can do a billion things, but neglect even ignore those I love and love me. In Revelation 2:4, God reminds us that there are times where we do many good things but forget our first love. Let us return to them now. And let us also return to God, who “while we were still sinners, died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Offensive

I do not understand the love affair amongst some Christians of making the cross offensive. “This will (probably) offend you,” they say. “This may upset the PC people,” they add.

What kind of witness is this? Yes, Paul calls the cross “foolishness” (1 Corinthians 1:18) to some, and many times it is. There are many who don’t get it, don’t like it, or more likely have had bad experiences with it.

But our goal should never to be to offend, but simply to present the Gospel as it is. The naked Gospel is powerful enough without attaching a bulldozer to is.

Let us witness and truth and in love. May it be Christ and the Holy Spirit that speaks through us, rather than our own selfish ambition.

I Was Born with a Primal Glory

You can take what you want from me

for I was born with a primal glory

so even if everything I have is gone

I still have that

always did, always do, always will

it is a God-given gift

the seal of the incarnate Divine

placed upon my skin like stigmata,

letting the Earth know I am His

and He is mine and we are ours together.

The Least of These

Who is the least of these?

We all are. We can be poor of spirit

and poor of money

and beat down and cast out and left alone.

Reach out to your brothers your sisters

your fathers your mothers your uncles

aunts cousins across the world

and across the street

listen to one another

be there and support

“listen listen love love”

for God is good

and we are ALL His children!
