Performers, get fed
Return to the fountain of your youth
Lest you continually drink from an empty well
and sing and speak with a mouth so dry
it spurts out dust and fly
instead of living waters.
Sit in the stands, in the pews
Be one with the audience, the congregation
Remember what drew you to the altar, the stage
in the first place.
We must be born again daily
or die slowly,
turning not into an aging beauty
but a skipping vinyl
playing the same song again and again
til people cup their hands over their ears
and either throw you out the window
or simply walk away.
We all like the world of make believe. As kids we used to play it all the time. Adults do too. Musicians do large venues and struggle to pay bills. Models do huge advertising campaigns and go home to a small artists’ loft they share with three to five other people. This is a good encouragement to support your local artist. It is also a plea for you to not get so down-in-the-mouth at times when you feel you haven’t “made it” like they have.
We all struggle to get by, to make ends meet, to provide for our families. Sure, there are exceptions, but they are the exception, rather than the rule. So, you may never be as big as you think they are; but, chances are, neither will they, and that’s okay! Just keep doing what you’re doing: taking practical and effective steps each and every day towards your goal and you’ll find yourself looking back in the future in awe of how far you’ve come. Ask any dieter or musician: greatness is not won overnight, but greatness is possible over time. So, takes the steps today to achieve it.
Don’t worry. Don’t compare. Just do you.
