The Weddings of Walmart

Have you heard of the People of Walmart?

If you haven’t, it’s a site where people post pics

of ridiculous situations they’ve encountered

while at the store.

Then, the internet takes the pics and throws pies at them.

Mostly pies made out of poo.

Did you know that there is a wedding equivalent of this?

Where people post pictures of other people’s weddings

for the world to throw poop-pies at?

I do.

I know this because my wife and I’s wedding photos

ended up on one, several in fact.

Changes things. Everyone loves to laugh at the clown.

But what if you are the clown, what then?

Well, then you begin to realize that people

can be very mean, especially behind closed doors;

but that is part of life.

If you’re doing anything worth doing,

people will be ready with pies.

You will get covered, but KEEP GOING.

We’re married to this day, seven years in July.

Couldn’t be happier, or more grateful for such a wonderful partner.

You know what’s really funny?

We served pie at our wedding.

Cake just wouldn’t do.

From a Distance

I went to an art exhibit with my friend, Brian.

The artist took pictures of large groups of people

from a helicopter.

Inevitably, patterns emerge,

just in the movement of people.

From afar, just as up close, we are works of art,

from concept to design to finished product,

heart, mind, and soul.

Do we have the eyes to see, the ears to hear

the will to believe so?

7 of My Favorite Things

Some of my favorite things:

-Jesus Christ (glimpses of the depth of His love and mercy, plus whispers from the Holy Spirit)

-Exercise (soccer, weights, read-walks, running, hiking)

-Sunshine (the warmer, the better)

-Food (esp. Mexican, Japanese, and phở, plus In-n-Out)

-People (all walks of life, whoever wants to have a good conversation)

-Music (esp. 70’s folk, Hillsong, show tunes, and the Wheeland Brothers)

-Nature (esp. mountain forests and ocean adventures)

What are some of yours?

If It Is Your Will

Thank you God for the job I have,

the chance to recoup the losses,

regain the wealth I so foolishly squandered.

Yet, even still, I miss people,

hearing their stories,

making eye contact with the living.

If it is possible, return me to my former self,

or better even, if it is Your will.
