Gifted, not Re-Gifted

You are not a broken box

Expecting to get met with a scowl

and returned to sender

No, you are a present,

impeccably wrapped

and beautiful,

carrying wordless

worth and beauty

How lucky we are to have you

be present, be now, be loved

and, of course, open yourself up to others,

the true treasure’s inside.

Tearing Down Walls

Currently my wife is tearing down walls

of our double-wide

making way for new walls

renovated spaces.

That’s relationship

right there

Being a badass

being bold enough to tear down walls,

which were good at the time,

but new ones are needed for growth

to build families and futures

and a new home

better than even the people before us knew.

Present

“Are you ready?” he said with his handlebar mustache and cologne.

“I believe so,” he said with his baseball cap hung low on his face.

He extracted from his person a gold watch. His guest’s eyes twinkled as they saw it.

He took a moment, then undid the clasp.

Suddenly, the cafe around them froze. Coffee stopped pouring. Customers ceased from talking. The world stood suspended in time.

Out from the opened pocket-watch arose a great light: a fairy with translucent wings. It danced about the cafe. He watched it, a boy again.

As it flew over the man’s hand, he caught it and handed it to his guest.

“It’s yours now,” he said.

The guest reached over and took it

“What shall I do with it?” he said.

“That’s up to you,” said the man, “but I pray you do something beautiful.”

The guest took it. It sparkled in his hand, dissolved into his skin. Her eyes shone an iridescent blue.

“I will do just that said,” he said.

The world began to move again. The man disappeared, but his guest remained, iridescent as ever and ready to take on the day.

To the Utmost

It is the nature of God to reveal Himself

It is the nature of man to try to conceal Him

His fingerprint is everywhere,

in the rocks, trees, and air

Man covers the universe in concrete and steel,

he erects walls

while God builds bridges

Jesus Christ being the ultimate bridge

between holy God and His fallen children.

Man covers over the cross with outstretched hands,

claiming “I am god”

Yet the true God remains always before us,

waiting, inviting us in,

wanting us to experience Him

to the utmost.
